About Shave the Monkey
Shave the Monkey played together for fifteen years – but
all good things must come to an end, so at the end of 2003,
decided to call it a day. Shave the Monkey did reunite once in
2004. All seven past and present members also reunited in 2009
for two 20th anniversary gigs. Following the success of these performances
they reunited for a final time in 2011 for two further gigs. There
are no plans for any further reunions.
Shave the Monkey's influences came from many sources, including
traditional, rock, early and classical music, as was evident in
its unique style. Their command of over 20 instruments which
spanned ten centuries, coupled with superbly crafted songs made
what can only be called an electric performance.
Shave performed at many of Europe’s top festivals including
Fairport Convention’s Cropredy Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival,
Dranouter Festival in Belgium and Zwolle Folk Festival in Holland.
When not performing at festivals the band was playing up and down
the UK in folk clubs and art centres. Shave the Monkey also made
several appearances on both radio and television.
During the fifteen years that Shave the Monkey was together the
band recorded four albums at Woodworm Studios.
